V-Flyer

This was my second trip on the VS45 in two weeks, so I was interested to see how this one compared to the last one, which had been really good.

The bottom line is: this was also a very good flight. Check-in and security and LHR were painless; the Clubhouse was relatively quiet and service was good. Priority boarding worked well, and the flight got away reasonably quickly -- although there was a delay because of an engine problem. Mustang Sally looked clean and pretty swish -- I do moan about the 747s, but no complaints today!

Lunch was served quickly out of Heathrow, and the crew were impressive. I should particularly commend the CSS looking after the nose section of the UC cabin -- he was great, telling us about what he was going to do in NYC. Later in the flight my wife felt quite unwell, mainly because of some choppy turbulence as we passed over the NE coast of America, and the CSS was very sympathetic, bringing Rennies (!) and later on asking whether she was feeling better -- he went well beyond the call of duty. I was also impressed by the FSM, who served the wine and who seemed to have an excellent relationship with her team. When my wife's seat would not convert into a bed, she came (despite being on her rest break) and fixed it after two others had failed. There was some joking about her magic fingers. She also came to deal with a problem with the IFE (no volume control), and offered 5000 miles in compensation, which posted 3 days later.

For once, priority disembarkation was executed correctly, and the downstairs UC cabin was let off before the bubble was released. Immigration was not too bad -- 45 minutes, exactly the same time as the previous week. For the second week in a row, the immigration officer was courteous and indeed friendly, telling us where to pick up our bags. This makes such a difference.

So: top marks to all concerned. I like the timing of the VS45, and if the immigration wait continues to reduce, I think it will rapidly start to challenge my preference for the VS9.
