At the last minute, I decided to use the UC Check In wing because I realised while packing my bags that there might be need for a fourth bag to be checked in, and I was absolutely not going to push a laden trolley across the airport. No. No. No. So I called, was put on hold for almost 25 minutes and when the agent came on the line my mind had wandered off. Anyways, that aside, I booked a slot and went ahead to pack suitcase number 4.
Since I happened to be travelling during the Jubilee, I decided not to take any chances and miss my flight so I did something totally uncharacteristic for me and left home early to get to the airport (I left at 17:00 for a 22:20 flight). I found out that it was unnecessary as the roads were absolutely free and I was at the airport in about 45 minutes. On a normal day, the trip from Dulwich to the T3 is about 1 hour 15 minutes. God save the Queen.
Got to the wing and up the ramp and by the time the car pulled up at the entrance, my boarding pass, luggage tags and welcome crew were waiting for me. That does give a bit of an extra special feeling doesn’t it? So through the private security channel, duty free and to the haven that is the CH. Saw a few familiar faces and we chatted briefly about what I’d been up to since the last time we saw.
Seeing as I had time to kill, I went to book my usual maintenance manicure and decided to throw in an eyebrow wax (ouch). Ordered a CH burger and a ginger top and set up my laptop to get some work done. My meal arrived not too long after and I was disappointed to see that the chips had been replaced with French fries.

I finished my meal and dashed into duty free to pick up a couple of bottles of whisky for the Mr. and a few overpriced mini chocolate bags and then went for my treatment. Afterwards, I went over to speak to a few acquaintances and ordered a second ginger top. The flight was called at about 21:45 and we all walked down to gate 13 (I think). There was a bit of a delay, but before we could get worried, the flight deck announced that one of the pax had lost her passport and they were searching for it, we were also warned that if it wasn’t found, there will be a further delay to offload her bags. Luckily about 10 minutes later it was announced that all pax and crew were onboard and the ground staff could leave the aircraft. We pushed back and took off a few minutes before 11PM which I guess wasn’t so bad.
The flight itself would have been uneventful if not for the stomach lurching turbulence we experienced in some areas. The menu has been changed as was discussed somewhere and I completely forgot to take my copy but luckily someone has posted the new menu.
I had smoked salmon which was nice.
Then jollof rice (it’s rice cooked in a tomato and red pepper sauce) with a few Nigerian sides thrown in which I think was a bit much
And for desert, the warm chocolate pudding. I still prefer the sticky toffee, but this might grow on me though.
It was a great flight, all the right boxes were checked, except the entertainment. It didn’t seem that any new movies had been added for the month. I ended up watching J Edgar which proved a bit disappointing or maybe I was just not in the mood.
