In contrast to the outbound flight to Newark, I was not looking to this flight at all as it signaled the end of the holiday. After the hassle with Online Check in for the outbound flight, I decided it was not worth the hassle again. We were picked up at our DC hotel and were at Dulles at 15:20. We checked in very quickly and were through security 10 minutes after that. Dulles was a very nice modern airport, and compared very favorably to others I have flown from in the US.

We had a long wait due to the early arrival, I was envious of the passengers who were heading into the clubhouse, opposite the gate. We pushed off on time and we were told due to strong tail winds, we should arrive in London 30 minutes early. The flight was fairly uneventful, the IFE was started quickly and was working for most people. I knocked two stars off as my audio was dodgy and I had to keep on adjusting the headphones to get sound, which was quite irksome. I broke my own rule and did opt for the beef when the food was brought around and remembered why I never touch VS's economy offerings! The breakfast was OK, even though we could have done with more than 98ml of Minute Maid! The crew were helpful and friendly throughout the flight. The cabin seemed very cold to me though.

We arrived just ahead of schedule and were off the aircraft and through security in no time at all.

Many thanks for the TR, makes a change from those who think VS like to heat people to the point of forcing sleep on overnighters.....

IAD is loathsome from a security and immigration pov but the B gates are great from a pov of things to do ... did you explore the shops and bars?

Been going in and out of dulles for 20 years now and remember when there was no nice B gates

How excited I was when VS starts flying here as finally had a 3rd choice instead of just UA and BA and even more excited when the B gates opened-the mid field bit sucks.

Post 9/11 initially it was the most dire airport i knew as nothing was airside other than an odd starbucks.

The airport, 20 years ago, was so quiet you could fire canon balls down the hallways-boy have times changed there.
