Were the things you passed giant spaceship looking towers.. if so that is the remains of the World's Fair that was in Corona Park circa 1964/5. It is a shame that the pavillion and observation towers have been allowed to degrade like that... could have made for an awesome tourist attraction. The views from the observation towers present day are amazing - google it. There have been people over the years that have picked the locks on the gates and climbed the things Nutters.

Unfortunately some of the contents from the boxes that come from the galley are hard to identify at times... best not to think about it
