And now for the return leg!

Having been dropped off at Hewenorra Airport, we were very glad of the Upper/premium check in desk as the airport is little more than a partially air conditioned shack! It was sinfully hot in the check in area and someone fainted once they got into the terminal.

The airport is not setup to handle a plane the size of a jumbo. Once on and soaking up the air con, we sat waiting for paperwork to be completed for an hour.

Once again we were in the bubble and as before, the seats were great.

This was a night flight and I have to say the crew looking after us were fantastic! They were very attentive, multiple drinks rounds, hot towels, quick to remove trays once done. Tea/coffee/juice runs throughout the flight. They were so friendly towards my two kids and gave them extra sweets just before landing.

It was a bit of a bumpy flight and I always hate it when the crew are asked to sit down as you know it will get a bit wild.

Unfortunately, as the flight progressed I noticed some bites on my ankles. I didn't think much about it until I looked a bit closer in the baggage hall and my legs were covered. My wife then said that she had been bitten by something and so had my son. Our friends who were travelling in economy downstairs were also bitten by something. Not impressed! I spend 10 days in the Caribbean and don't get bitten once and then spend 7 hours on a flight and get eaten alive. v(

It was a shame that a really good flight was let down by an ending like this.

Sam

Thank you for posting your TR. We use to travel to the Caribbean at lot at one time ( Mostly with Virgin Atantic ) and regularly come off the home flight with a bite or two.

On my only flight to the Caribbean, BA walked up and down the plane spraying this really strong aerosol, when we touched down in Antigua. I assumed that was for bugs before continuing to Grenada.

You should let VS know. They should spray the plane with insecticide just before take off.

I believe they do for the caribbean flights. Trouble is, they cannot spray the passengers who may have unknowingly picked up hitchhikers.

IIRC they do, but prior to landing rather than at take off.

Correct, before we landed in St Lucia they walked down the cabin with the spray. Looks like they need stronger stuff!!

Then I suspect they'd be open to all kinds of claims from people who felt unwell after the flight.

When we were in St Lucia last summer the mosquitos were particularly active and the resort management called in the pest control people. As they sprayed it was like something out of a Stephen King story, with a dense fog of something reaching up to the treetops and getting into everywhere.
