First time at EWR: impressed. Easy to get through TSA were great, Terminal B good selection of bars and little shops.

Check in grand: offered transfer to JFK as flight was 2 hrs late but declined as it would be 3 hrs to JFK in rush hour.

First time on 346, first time in PE in a long time.

Got on, sat down, went to sleep, woke up, got off.

Didn't eat, declined a drink, brought my own breakfast - some yoghurt and fruit. Didn't use the IFE, got off, came off home.

Seat, however, I didn't like: fixed armrest made leg stretch uncomfortable and when the seat in front reclines you have no option but to do the same.

346 is really noisy compared to the 744: engine noise and AC noise mainly but the flaps need oiling Mr Airbus!!

Tall reddish haired steward in PE was lovely: lives in Somerset, he knows who he is.

All in all, did what it said on the tin but the seat ain't great.

Asked about upsell to Upper: $1700 each.

Are they real?

Plenty seats went empty: they need to maximise revenue and if someone will pay $800 - take it.

Seat went empty: loss of revenue.

OK I'm only Silver:gets in box:-)

Afraid so, why devalue the product if you don't need to?

In future, never be afraid to negotiate. Mileage offers, cheaper upsells, BOGOF arrangements... you'll be surprise at the discretion that some of these supervisors will wield. Check in staff will usually say no at the offset by the way, best to ask at the ticket desk or ask to bug a supervisor.. you never know :P

Cheers for posting 8D

Surely though joey after recent losses should they really be letting UC class seats go empty if someone is willing to pay something for them,I know it's a tricky one but there must be something that VS can do to maximise revenue for every flight

I would disagree blacky, If they open up UC to a free for all upgrade at any cost kinda thing at the airport, then who would book it at the outset knowing they could check-in early and get the upgrade for a song??

The mileage upgrades are a little different as from the VS perspective the miles in peoples' accounts are a whopping liability, explains why G fares can be magically created from full Js if there is availability. Never be afraid to ask.

Keep the UC integrity and value I say - can't go devaluing the class at the front of the plane now :P

Ha ha joey ,god forbid eh lol,
When I said its a tricky one it was along those lines you mention that I was thinking,I guess if flights are busy in UC most of the time they have no reason to drop prices at the airport,I guess the people in vs know what they are doing ( or do they ?)

Thanks for the TR. Genuinely surprised by your comments on the seat and the noise levels - personally I find the 346 miles quieter than the jumbos, and I think the seat is a strong aspect of the PE product. Each to his own I guess! :)

Only been on a 346 once and must admit I thought it was very quiet too ,the PE seat didn't seem as spacious in terms of legroom but I'm sure that's just my imagination
