Having spent a great holiday on Cape Cod and in Boston this flight really completed a memorable family vacation.

We flew into and out of EWR because of reward flight availability. We usually go PE and use Virgin CC upgrade vouchers. However on this occasion when booking in April noticed that 4 Gs were available for the home leg! Unheard of in my experience but bagged immediately and kept it a secret til our home leg (the outbound leg PE on VS009 A330 was pretty good too).

We flew down from BOS on the Monday evening with Delta (average but glad to earn a tier point) and stayed at the EWR Marriott overnight. Superb hotel, great pool, very family friendly and great shuttle that got us to the terminal very quickly - allowed more time in the Clubhouse!

Newark Clubhouse - empty!

Great to see the look on the kids faces when checking in - they've been told not to get used to it!! Security quick and into a very empty clubhouse at 7.00am. The new clubhouse much nicer than the old one but still lacks windows like the ones in JFK and SFO (my favourite).

After a great breakfast boarded and welcomed by name (1st time ever and only FC silver!). Maybe it was beacuse there were only 12 of us in UC on a 346! :D
Take off over Manhattan amazing with probable the best views of NYC I've ever seen.

Manhattan - awesome view

Once airborne the service was amazing - with so few in the cabin it felt like a private jet and we all really enjoyed the 7 hour daytime flight. The food was as good as I've experienced on a VS flight and the CC were a credit to the airline.

Only my second time on a daytime flight back form the East Coast but it really does minimize the jet lag in my view. The kids seemed pretty OK the next day compared to before when the night flight back can take 2-3 days to recover from.
VS019 now my favouirte flight back from the US! y)

Thanks for the TR and the pics , agreed that the 18 certainly in my experience is the best way to get over jetlag rather than a night flight although it does req a rather early start in the morning

Your TR has triggered a desire to go across to EWR and sample the Marriott and the daytime return once again - roll on the Sales I say ):

Nice TR and pics.

For those that stay at the Marriott at EWR I got a fantastic rate of £90 through VH when I stayed there a few weeks ago.
