What happened to cause the delay?

You might be better off starting a thread in the forum as the way you have posted looks like a trip report when in fact it's not, it's a query.

And 3 years ago?

If it is a justifiable claim under the EU 261 (or whatever the number is) ruling then I think you can claim up to six years in the past.

Didn't want to put the OP off but we need more detail.
