VS201 SYD-HKG 20 Sept 2013

After making my way through International Transfer Security where my hand luggage got tested three times I made my way to the Koru lounge to which I was welcomed in this time.
I asked if I could possibly speak to a member of the VS team as I was unable to get land side one of the ladies gave them a call and I asked about the possibility of an UC upgrade to which the gentleman on the end of the phone replied "we've comped your UC upgrade to HKG" result.
So after leaving the Koru I made my way to Gate 59 which was directly under my seat in the Koru where boarding had already commenced I gave the gate staff my boarding pass which received the beep from the machine and the new boarding pass was issued this time for 8K, admittedly I took the opportunity to ask about the HKG-LHR leg and was told I could upgrade from a H fare to a J for £1000 which I accepted maybe due in part to the fact that I had spent a great deal of my time in the Koru chatting to an Ex Pat on his way back to NZ and shared many drinks together and in part to the fact I felt I owed VS something for the comp. But whatever the cause the result is now a flat bed all the way from SYD-LHR.

In true V-Flyer style Champagne offered and accepted no refill though.

We pushed back at 1430 and had to have a manual safety demonstration as the IFE would not display it (I thought spelled disaster for the flight but my Sky Map seems to be working fine). We took off at 1505 with 307 pax Onboard.

For the meal I opted for the Thai Potato soup and the Stir Fried Beef, unfortunately the beef was all gone by the time my order was placed so I went for a couple of the Burgers from the Graze menu instead.
The Thai sweet potato soup was great and it turned out that there was enough of the beef main course also good.
I had a couple of glasses of red wine and then made my bed and slept through until afternoon tea, a strange concept with it being dark outside.

We landed at 2140 no love hearts though, and I was in the CH by 2200.

Another great flight made sweeter by the op up.

Wow result on the OP UP at SYD.
I think you paying the £1k upgrade was a good gesture given them offering you an OP UP. I agree with your action on that one. Loyalty is and should be a two way street.

Yeah I was nicely surprised when he told me that the HKG leg had been comped,

UC and PE were both full so I'm glad I did it but I guess I'll have to wait for the new iPhone now.

Massive cudos on the op-up y) ..as for owing VS something... never :P Good on ya though.

Looks like a sound flight, miscommunication on the beef supply aside.
