Ah--when will I smarten up? Intended to upgrade with miles and left it til harried late arrival (M25 grrr....) so asked at check-in. Told to go to Upgrades which made sense, so went to Upgrades. Stood in Upgrades queue for Very Long Time next to )(no queue) Payments and finally when arrived at booth told should be at Payments.

Moved over one. Seen at Payments by friendly but slightly unfocused staff who took a Very Long Time processing our request. yes , there was availability, but pooh just try to get hold of FC who kept her on the line for a Very Long Time as apparently our request required that information be hand walked down several aisle presumably in Crawley and then we all hung on and waited until it walked back. Given seats 9K and 14K and were told they were next to each other in this particular aircraft (?) Spent One Hour total after all three booths to be handed BP and sent to CH .
Had lovely couple of CH hours (a bit peeved to have been robbed of a third) when called to board...VFAR. I have flown on VFAR for many years. Molly does not have seats 14K and 9K next to each other. In fact no one should really ask to be sat in 14 and above UC as they are not part of the UC cabin and subject to much galley activity as well as PE access to WC. Cabin crew very kind, tried to sort us out but best they could do was 15K so it went. Still, VFAR has the OLD UC seats which means you can actually look out the window AND have a comfy snooze. Turbulence at takeoff did not let up for a good while but eventually smooth and pleasant flight. Crew was terrific, best in ages, although front UC cabin was served a good bit before back UC cabin...

Ate a quick tea (VS 12 leaves around 6pm) and as it was Vera reel and a very poor selection, read, had some nice Sav Blanc, a an orange slice fizz drink at bar and slept a few hours. Made good time and was back in Boston by 8pm...to arrive at the endless customs queue which saw us back out to the street an hour later with Logan Express arriving just as we emerged from Terminal E.

Thanks for the TR. Glad you finally got the upgrade. Good to read that the crew were terrific.

I always felt that rows 14-16 work well as the snooze zone since they're totally separate to the rest of the cabin, but I guess on a non-overnighter it must feel a bit isolating.

Yes of course you're right re overnight flights when the galley is not in use as much. The clatter in the galley on a day flight is pretty constant throughout the flight. I should have been paying more attention when we were assigned seats as have only been previously on GFAR in back UC cabin on happy-with-anything op ups!
