The Chauffeur service arrived on time at 7.30am, but for some reason only expected only one passenger, but no problem.

Whisked off to the DTCI in T3 LHR - a nice experience, but no UC security, so had to traipse through to the general security area, then through the entire DutyFree area to get to the CH. Minor inconvenience, welcomed nicely into the CH and soon were in possession of a glass of champers and a breakfast menu.

Facial appointment booked, we settled down to earl grey tea and eggs benedict (me) and breakfast tea and 2 bacon butties (Himself). Followed by a JD for him (Honestly? at 9.15 am?) and a virgin redhead for me (delicious).

Flight was at 11 so I went for scheduled facial at 9.45 while the OH went to the gate (he was flying PE). Amazing facial, then feeling calm and completely hydrated I wandered to the gate.

Arrived just as he was boarding, so a quick kiss goodbye and off to UC.

The plane apparently was about to be decommissioned in the next few weeks, and looked it's age, but was ok for a relatively short 8 hour flight. Films on a loop, but UC got tablets with the films loaded, but not sadly the one I was planning to watch (Love Punch).

Enjoyed the lunch (blue cheese and pear salad followed by a meltingly tender fillet steak) but it took a while (ok half way through main course) before I got the glass of wine I'd ordered. CC were so nice however, they were forgiven. Plane was probably 2/3 full.

After a film I went to the bar area and had an enjoyable conversation with other passengers (and a few wines) before it was time for afternoon tea. Scrummy is the only word to describe it!

(had food piccies but apparently they are too large to download!)

Loved the little cake stand, nice sarnies, delicious scone and lovely cakes, then collapsed into a food coma until time to land.

Not a bad UC flight at all! Especially since it was a mileage redemption and cost me a shade over £500!

Now I'm retired it's unlikely to happen again...

Thanks for the TR. I hope you have a nice trip and a good return flight. I too am retired and holiday on average every 6 weeks.

Thanks for the TR, sounds like a good flight. Incidentally, once through security you have to go though the duty free area to get to the clubhouse, the airport wouldn't want any pax slipping through without trying to tempt them to shop!

As Bretty has said, there is no way of avoiding the Shopping Mall in T3 even if you are in the Upper Class security channel. The UC lane is effectively the "far left" screening lane of the main T3 security search area - you just enter it via somewhat calmer surroundings / shorter queues.
