We'd managed to get two upper class reward flights less than two weeks before flying - had just enough points! Our daughter was in New York for a fortnight working, so worked out well to join her for the Easter weekend.

We stayed at the Standard Highline Hotel - the room was quite small, but well designed and had great views over the Hudson. Tried to get into the rooftop bar one evening, but daughter didn't have the right kind of shoes on - all seemed a bit pretentious for us.

Anyway, managed to pack a lot in to two and a half days - Guggenheim, Mad Men exhibition, Central Park, High Line amongst others, and many miles of walking.
Enjoyed the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Station, and finished with brunch at the Grill in the Standard Hotel on Easter Sunday. (They had an Easter Egg Hunt and petting zoo for kids).

Got a taxi to JFK in the afternoon - heavy traffic, and arrived at the terminal about 4.30pm. Checked our bags in and were told there was a priority security line. When we got to security we were firmly told to get in one of the normal lines - wasn't too long anyway.

It was our first visit to the New York Clubhouse. Were shown around and settled in by the window with a glass or two. Saw our plane 'Dream Jeannie' being towed on to the stand. We ate in the dining area - lamb kebabs and burgers.

Boarding was on time. As would be expected on a brand new plane, everything was in good order. The upper class cabin seemed quite spacious, and the overhead bins were enormous! Took off on time, we had a glass or two of wine, but didn't want any more food. Seats were soon converted to beds and settled down to sleep/watch a film. Had fun darkening the window. Managed to get a few hours sleep, but a short flight time of under 6 hours meant we were soon being served breakfast, and landed at Heathrow about 6.20am.

Through Passport Control quickly, luggage arrived as soon as we reached the belt, and off to get the good old Piccadilly Line back to Central London - and a few more hours sleep as soon as we reached our flat!

Sounds like you had a great time in NYC.

The 787 does have a spacious feel - the toilets are particularly large and make it far easier to change into sleep suits - and (IIRC) if you sit in the A seats you have access to the bins over your seat and a set bins over the central aisle seats.
