V-Flyer

So, thought I'd take the chance whilst sitting in the very nice Aer Lingus lounge in Heathrows T2 to write up yesterday's flight.

Really impressed with set up and how easy (apart from a huge walk from the gate to baggage) the whole "transfer" process is.

The route via JFK to MCO using Delta connection opens up so many more possibilities to get to my fav destination, and of course the extra tier points don't go wrong either.

So the lounge was ticked off, burger, champagne, maybe some more champagne, ice cream and a coffee were all sampled for the v-flyer taste test and all passed, although the burger could have been a bit bigger.

You just order another though

So, all too soon the flight was called and being the gate downstairs, it was only a minute before I had my first impression of the new Dreamliner.

Nice plane, but already showing a few scrapes and dings - you wonder how long it will be before they start to look a little "used"

The touch screen is much better over my usual transport ( lgw 747's ) but I've got to say, the rest of the seat / plane doesn't feel quite as well built as the sturdy old jumbos.

When you pressed buttons, the panels moved in. Don't think the seats are as wide and I don't think they recline as much. They are very much quieter in operation, unlike the Gatwick ones that sound as thought they used the same motors to move the seats as they had to move the flaps.

The little step up to the seat caught me out ever time. No honestly the stumble wasn't caused by alcohol but it was still a light airy plane that I'm sure will be around for a long time to come, (but they are a bit small )

The other thing that confused me was the bar being behind, but the galley up front - again just used to the Gatwick jumbos.

After stuffing myself in the lounge, I only had the soup, very nice (and gloopy) and a few bites of the chicken, again very nice.

Watched Paddington and then tried to catch a few hours sleep.

This being a very short flight, I think I got around 2.5 hours before it was time to get changed in the enormous bathroom before breakfast and landing

The cabin crew really worked hard and kept everyone fed and watered and I guess it will be pretty nice to try a day flight in the Dreamliner and the fancy new bar. Upper and premium were full, but space was available in economy. I guess things are on the up

A very early arrival which was announced by "we've arrived 35 minutes early and before British Airways" and the bonus of revivals being Heathrow instead of Gatwick.

So a lovely shower, some breakfast and as I've said, now sitting in the Aer Lingus lounge in T2.



The big question is, am I waiting on an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin then onto Edinburgh or a Little Red flight to take me home

You make a good point about the Delta link opening up potential for travelling to and from Orlando - especailly as the fares never seem to drop.

Having been in the Aer Lingus Lounge at T2, I am still undecided as to whether it is a place that has a "soul'

Other than a VS Clubhouse I'm not sure I've ever been in an airport lounge that has a soul!

At least the T2 EI lounge has views - the offer's basic but it easily beats the horrible Servisair lounge in T1 which VS were so embarrassed about they offered a £10 Costa voucher instead!
