Let's Pick an Official V-Flyer Theme Song

I did a Search and found nothing about this so apologies if this has already been decided but...

Wouldn't it be cool if V-Flyer had a theme song? Some that immediately stand out:

* Leaving on a Jet Plane
* Jet Boy, Jet Girl
* Like a Virgin

But for me, the nominee is:

* Come Home, Billy Bird -- The Divine Comedy

Even though it's about a businessman, I think the lyrics capture the experience many of us have in flying -- for fun or business. See what you think...here's the lyrics:

William wakes with his clothes on
The morning call has been and gone
And he might not make the flight but he will try. (yeah)
Bit by bit it comes back to him
A bunch of Belgian businessmen
And a strange drinking game - why oh why?

Come home Billy Bird, International Business Traveller
Come home Billy Bird, Billy Bird.

He hails a cab but the driver sucks;
He drives real slowly and he talks so much
That it hurts Billy Bird's aching brain.
He runs from the cab to the check-in desk
She says "no way" but William begs
On his knees "please please please" , "well okay."

Come home Billy Bird, International Business Traveller
Come home Billy Bird.

Drenched in sweat he finds his seat
And with the luggage squeezed down beneath his feet
He begins to think that things can't get no worse.
And then a voice says "bags that can't be stowed
In the overhead lockers must go below
In the hold - please let go. Thank you, Sir."

Come home Billy Bird, [Come home William] International Business Traveller
Come home Billy Bird,
Come home William,
Come home, William.

He runs on past the carousel
Screaming "damn my luggage all to Hell
I can buy a new shirt and tie anyday!"
He rides from the airport into town
To the highschool football ground
Where his son has just begun the big football game.
"Come on Billy Junior!"

Come home Billy Bird, International Business Traveller
Come home Billy Bird, International Business Traveller
Come home, come home, come home to where you once belonged.
Come home Billy Bird, Billy Bird, Billy Bird, Billy
Bird, Billy Bird.
Ooh.

Come Home, Billy Bird for me too I think, unless anyone can top it.

Great song with a little twist at the end.

The Divine Comedy also had a song "To Die a Virgin"

In true 'Dark Side' style ... Let's take an established classic ... Bring it up to date ... And add a futuristic element :D

I was thinking Julie London's 'Fly Me To The Moon' remixed & mastered by Fat Boy Slim :D

Has possibilities [:0]

I love Divine Comedy - "as she danced down the aisle, but her arse was the size of a small countreeee...."

How about "Comin in on a Wing and a Prayer"?

I'm sure with your literary talents, GJ, you could some up with something yourself - anyone with any music experience?[8D]

VS.

[:#][:#]Ok then [:o)]

How about Sweet Dreams (Suite Dreems) by the Eurythmics.

I do believe you still didn't pick jerseyboy [:0]

If we are allowed to pick covers of old classics I would go for The Red Rose covered by heavy D and the Boys with John Prescot making a guest appearance as one of the boys, purple (relecting one of virgin's colors) jodhpurs and all. I believe the song not only reflects one of virgin's other colors (red) but also highlights our penchant for veering to the left (On enteting the aeroplane in our cases).

GJ, Billy Bird would do for the average 'business' V-flyer. I soundly applaud that choice. [^] What about those who travel for pleasure, though? Methinks we might need more than one song! Maybe an 'AVOD suite' of music would be a better choice.

One I'd like to nominate for the poor sardines in Y is: Rawhide, in the Blues Brothers Soundtrack version. (Wiki it or go to your fave used music store.) Yeah, pack 'em in! 'Git those dogies movin' or we'll never push back.

If there's a song for 'spending my inheritance' it could be for all the boomers flying Upper on their own wallets, as that's what the children can sing as Mom and Dad fly away. [:p] Anyone have a title which fits?

If only I knew the name of the song in this video (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 1911653366) I would recommend it!

Does anyone know the name/artist of this track on that video? I want to download a copy.

[brAmazing tool on the web, new one I think, called Google. You put a few of the lyrics into the search box, press search and WHAMMO, you find that this is Moby's song called Lift Me Up.

I swear, what WILL they think of next? I wonder if Stephen Gerrard knows about this....

How about a version of the theme song from 'The High Life'. Hopefully, some fellow contributors will remember the absolutely brilliant TV show in the mid-90s about Air Scotia, starring the fantastic Alan Cumming. [:o)][^]
