Daughter gone to Summer Camp

Well my daughter finally got off to Summer Camp in Maine. She has 17 little American girls to look after and is teaching Gymnastics.

She was talking with some of her girls yesterday and they asked if she ate lots of French Fries. She told them no and they were very surprised as they thought that coming from France she would eat lots of them.

My daughter explained that England was not in France and they were very surprised. When she told them that England was in Britain and Britain was an Island, they were absolutely amazed and could not believe that anyone lived on an Island in the middle of the sea.[:0]

I was thinking maybe I should send over some English or at least British stuff for her to show them but I'm not quite sure what to send. She has a Union Jack and lots of coins and notes of course but what should I send that would show the kids what we are all about. [:?]

Any suggestions gratefully received :D

thanks

Perhaps I'm feeling a little cynical today (no change there then), but here're some suggestions:

ÔHoodyÕ and tracksuit-bottoms combo
Microwave meal/Pot Noodle
Selection of DVDs featuring ÔIÕm A CelebrityÉÕ, ÔBig BrotherÕ, ÔDancing On IceÕ, ÔHow Clean Is Your HouseÕ ÔWife SwapÕ et al
The Sun ÔnewspaperÕ
Copy of the newly resurrected EU Constitution
Case of Barcardi Breezers
Transcript of BlairÕs tearful farewell speech
20 Lambert & Butler
A prŽcis of the activities of the Health & Safety Executive (trust me, theyÕll never believe it!)
A litre of petrol (with receipt)

You might want to let them know that French Fries are from Belgium.

Hmm what is the quintessential British gift for a gaggle of young girls. I gave this a little thought after crying laughing at the '20 Lambert & Butler' suggestion.

I'd lean towards those 1 Kilo bars of Cadburys dairy milk. I lived in the US for a number of years (and my father is from Texas, which is why I type so slowly) however they can't make chocolate for toffee (to mix metaphors).

As for something educational, well an atlas wouldn't go amiss. Or to save money the link to Google earth.

Reminds me of the time when I explained to a young (10-12yo) American boy that I came from London, England and he replied 'That's the place with the clock isn't it'.

Bearing in mind our country's position as the teenage pregnancy capital of Europe mayb you should send them something to illustrate this.

Well, you have certainly given me some ideas, I knew I could count on you all to help me out, thanks very much:)

mbkid007 thanks for the globe idea. I have in fact just bought one for my little darlings so looks like they are going to lose that

Fozzyo Yorkshire Tea, good idea. I have just posted a bag of Tetley teabags over so that's near enough I reckon.

Mdvipond Barcardi Breezers and Lambert and Butler for 12 year olds[:0] but I bet my daughter would be glad of them under the circumstances, she didn't get much sleep last night because one of the girls was crying that she couldn't get to sleep as she was too hot, it hadn't occurred to her at 12 years old, that perhaps if she kicked off the THREE blankets she was underneath it might help[?]

adam777 Cadbury's Dairy Milk, now come on, if I buy that it will only just make it back from the shops, then I will eat it, it will never get to the Post Office;)

Thanks everyone, off to make up the parcel right away;)

Reminds me of an incident in a LA shopping mall a few years ago.

I was at a smoothie stand ordering a smoothie and the girl behind the counter said "Oh, nice accent, where are you from?"
I said "England"
She said "whereabouts"
I said "You probably wouldn't know it - a city called Bath"
She said "Oh, is that anywhere near Paris?"
My jaw hit the floor and I just mumbled "no..." and quickly left with my smoothie...
