Microwave Oven - put a spoon in ?

We have just had our new kitchen fitted and amongst the 'gadgets' we have a lovely Bosch microwave/oven combi thing.
When we looked inside we noticed a sticker with a picture of a cup with a spoon in it, alongside another cup with no spoon and a red cross through it.
I am assuming it means we have to put a metal spoon in the oven when heating up things.
Can any of you boffins out there please explain. We haven't got round to looking in the manual yet [ii]

I thought metal in microwave was a no no unless you wanted to see some exciting power arcs ?

I would definitely RTFM

normally metal in a microwave is the kiss of death, often resulting in permanent damage to the magnetron.

Is this something to do with the Volcano's they used to feature on the BBC Food & Drink show all those years ago? You'd heat up a cuppa in your trusty microwave and it would super heat part of it really well but others less so. When you put a spoon in it or something they all mixed up and kinda exploded a bit and burned people. The way around it was to put something in it to dissipate heat in the liquid.
See
this article and
this research paper for explanations.

You should probably add that you squeeze the egg between the tip and bottom, otherwise its way too easy [:o)]

hmmm, seeing as my thread has now turned into one on kitchen experiments, has anyone ever tried microwaving a whole egg in its shell ?
That would be interesting [:?]
