US Mail in Rebates

The thread on Chick-Fil-A and it's eligibility to US address holders reminds me of something.

Has anyone (UK based) tried to ever to take advantage of Mail in Rebates offered in US stores. It always gets me when I see a price that offers something for $60 and then you see, normally in small print, 'with $30 mail in rebate'. I was just wondering if anyone had done this through a UK address - I would have thought the refund would have been in the form of a US cheque anyway.

I could do this through the in-laws in FL but it always seems to get me that this is the deal.

Mail in rebates are a tricky thing. You have to have them EXACTLY correct or else you will not get what you deserve. And sometimes even when you do everything properly the company still tries not to give you the rebate. I feel like a UK address would be something that companies could use as an excuse not to honor the rebate. You should read over the fine print before filling it out just to make sure that you can argue if it does happen.

Tried once with a pair of Ray Bans, but no luck. After double checking all the boxes and waiting on a reply, it came back that it was US residents only. Even though I had specifically asked that at time of purchase if I would qualify.

(They were still cheaper than in the UK)
