AP News has just announced Benazir Bhutto has died following the bomb attack earlier today, a sad day for Pakistan.

Very sad. She had the ability to unite a very fractious country. Unfortunately it's been simply been a matter of time before someone was successful.

I thought the very same thing when I heard the news - if not civil war, then much more unrest at the very least.

So sad to hear this though - I remember reading thatshe thought she would be assassinated... tragic that she was right.

Am still in shock about this news but guess it was coming seeing as there was a failed attempt back in Oct and the other opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif was also subject to an attempt earlier this month I believe.

It seems like Musharraf needs to assert some strong control and fast. I guess with Al Qaieda behind the attacks and seemingly hell bent on causing civil unrest in Pakistan this will be a lot harder than done.
