Windows Vista

Maybe one for Richard.

Have got Vista on a laptop (business edition I think), and taskbar has started to dissappear. I believe this is a problem with IE and if you cancel this in task manager and then restart it, it comes back.

Anyone know if there is there a permanent fix or will this a SP1 fix.

thanks in advance

David.

Hi David,

Are you ending the iexplore.exe or explorer.exe process in Task Manager? The latter would be more applicable as that is the shell.

You don't have Windows Media player open by any chance do you? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944883/en-us

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

Its explorer.exe that I am ending and then restarting by using file, new task(run) etc.

Media player isn't open. It seems to happen after machine has been left for a while and then unlocked again to restart.

thanks again

David

I've just read this morning that IE8 isn't too far way, which might help [:)]

There is a developer preview of IE8 due imminently, the consumer/enterprise beta will be later on.

This issue isn't related to IE by the sounds of it, something is hanging Explorer (the shell) which is causing it to end. If you end Explorer, then you lose your taskbar and general front-end.

SP1 is due imminently too for the general masses, it is available for certain technical audiences now.

Thanks,
Richard
