[:D] Aren't we having a fantastic olympics

If this is partly down to lottery funding, it must be one of the first positive national projects it has done [y]

Go Team GB [^][^][^]

I'm surprised this is our first topic on it. Team GB (sucky name!) are doing amazingly, and I for one am totally addicted to the Olympics and watch it while I am working - like now [:)]

As for 2012, I intend on watching the coverage with just as much vigor and interest, but also plan onbeing nowhere near London during those two weeks [:D]

Thanks,
Sarah

I'm totally loving the Olympics!!!

And think its amazing how well we are doing ... 16 Golds, 33 medals!

I for one can't wait for London 2012 and hope to get tickets for at least a few days events, and hopefully will be there as a volunteer - as massage therapist or in another role.

Ah, a man after my own heart[}:)] The *talent* has been top draw during these games I must say[:I]

I also have been totally addicted to the Olympics and even got up at stupid o'clock on Saturday to watch the start of our super weekend. I love the Athletics, Cycling and Rowing but even the more obscure sports are strangely addictive, something only the Olympic vibe could achieve I think.

I can't wait for 2012 and firstly more success in Beijing, go Team GB!

I too have been watching it and enjoying it heaps. Even me (an Aussie) has been pleased with 'Team GB' and their medal tally, just hope the poms will stop whinging about how much 2012 is costing them, now they have stepped up their game.

What an excellent games we have had. This is the best since Antwerp in 1908 I believe which is fantastic given that at Antwerp only a small proportion of countries competed.

I am proud to admit that as well as being a bit of an aviation geek I am also an Olympics geek, it truly is the greatest sporting event in the world.

I believe that there are a number of factors due to our success. Certainly the lottery funding has helped greatly in Rowing and Cycling as well as Boxing (where they took some 9 boxers compared to 1 at Athens I believe). It also helps when there are relatively few nations competing in these events.

Whilst the media carries on to complain about the cost of London 2012 it is interesting to note that no one is really commenting on the legacy of the Commonwealths. London 2012 was won on the legacy aspect. Certainly in Cycling there is no doubt that we would not have been as successful if the velodrome in Manchester had been destroyed after the Commonwealths or not built at all. It pains me grately to see my sport (athletics) always destroying great facilities after Games to make way for football stadiums.

If we penny pinch massively on London 2012 then there will be no legacy and we will not see the swimmers do a cycling and win a large amount of golds in 2016 and beyond. And any hopes of staging future world sporting events could be lost.

So what are peoples highlights so far?

For me its not Phelps. Mine would be:
- Christine O in the 400m today and Andy Badderley making the 15 final.
- The cycling

My highlights? Seeing some of my best mates win gold medals (again!) sailing this week, and getting up tomorrow morning at 5 to hopefully watch another bring the missing one back for Windsurfing too [:)]

Your mates have been outstanding Paul[y] as has been the whole team. For me the cycling team have been amazing. Chris Hoy (fellow Scot) 3 gold medals. I think only Phelps so far has more.

Best laugh, Bolt from Jamaica winning the 100m. That guy could break 9.5 seconds in his sleep[^]
