I get embarrassed by all the British men/boys in their football kits on holiday in Orlando...even Epcot has twigged it and its the first item of clothing sold in the shop in their London bit of World Showcase. Come on guys...buy some proper gear...stop showing us up!

Football shirts should be worn at football games only. Anywhere else, in particular on a plane - the person should be shot. Any examples like Sarah and I saw where the whole family are sat wearing football kits, should be ensured that they are not breathing after being shot.

Might I suggest that this viewpoint from a moderator could be seen in the same light as some Virgin staff thinking of their passengers as chavs?

Well said - thought the days of travelling in formal dresswear were over, along with the class system.

Thankfully, we're all different. One man's meat....................

Perhaps but the pax we might take the mickey out of have a right of reply and also we don't owe our living to them.

And to clarify, ending the class system is rather different than actually having no class at all. I rather support the words of Jesus but I don't travel in a shroud carrying a wooden cross to proove it.

But if you did carry them around would you expect a moderator of this forum to say you should be shot?

I say old chap, that's a bit of a snobbish attitude.
They are on holiday and are entitled to wear what they want (as long as the clothes have no offensive slogans on them).
You wouldn't be one of the guys propping up the upper class bar in designer casual gear and jesus creepers with your Porsche car keys on the counter would you ?

My comments are meant as a joke, like yours probably was. But remember members of this forum are criticising the facebook crew members for unnecessary poking of fun at the chavs and people in the lower class seats, People in glass houses etc......

The forum should remember that it is supposed to be as a medium to give information, and guidance to all people regarding Virgin Atlantic matters.

I think you will find nothing could be further from the truth. LRoM in designer gear? You must be joking[:w][;)][:D]

The family concerned wearing football shirts had probably saved for years to take that trip. They paid for their tickets and should be allowed to wear what they feel comfortable in without snobs makinf comments saying they should be shot.

I took exception at the inference that the planes weren't safe.

If people feel the need to travel in football shirts then so be it, but I just wish they would only wear them for football...

I have been biting my lip since LRoM made his comment, and although he has been berated for it, i think he said what a lot of people are thinking, and that it exposes ones pedigree as rather common!
football shirts on holiday make me want to walk on the other side of the road on holiday, because they are usually the ones swearing loudly and showing us brits up, these are the ones who have no problem walking along with there shirts off in puplic places.

I have no problem with football shirts but there is a time and place for them, and perhaps trying to represent in them, gives off the wrong body language.[?]
Im no snob but i try to dress modestly and smartly and people around me in the CH, at work & holiday, and other such places make a great effort too, which all makes for a much nicer environment.

I know im going to be ripped apart[B)][B)] and perhaps i could have worded it better, i just dont see why expressing an opinion is either right or wrong 'or is that politically wrong' i forget now being in the EU.

Oh dear. Such a storm in a teacup. I think, perhaps, that people are mistaking LRoM's acerbic wit and pithy social commentary as something much more sinister than it really is.

And do bear in mind, there's a vast difference between a paid employee slagging off the customers of the company they work for, and a lowly mod of an independent forum making - in my humblest opinion - a rather amusing comment about people who for some reason decide to travel in their sports kit...

This is all getting so Orwellian!

And let's not start on about track suits ...

Is a football shirt the new track suit?

Is luminous the new black?

Well lump me in as common. I don't wear my shirt that often away from football games and sometimes not even to the games themselves but I will be damned if someone who can barely type will be telling me I am common!

I have 6 Upper Class flights coming up in the next 3 months and I am very tempted to wear my Spurs shirt for all of them just because it clearly annoys very narrow-minded people.

Unbelievable.

I think the chant to Chelsea fans when they were wearing their Yellow away kit was 'Are you the stewards in disguise?'

What about Everton's 'salmon' coloured kit or Sheffield Utd's day-glow lime away kit.

Anyway I thought 'chavs' wore Burburry and lots of gold. [:p][:p]

Which one is it? The new black 3rd kit or is it something 'retro'. I tend to wear a 1960's long sleeve one.

I do agree that you shouldn't be stereotyped just because of what you wear, it's your attitude to people is the more lasting mark. How many times do you hear about antics on trans-atlantic flight involving people wearing footie shirts. I don't think Naomi Campbell wore football shirts.

I withdrew the comment because I thought the person writing was cabin crew but then noticed a lot of people seemed to have that title, so assumed it was a naming convention on the forum.

My point however still stands. Calling someone common because they were a football shirt is as ignorant as thinking cabin crew are waiters who have been on an advanced safety course.
