When do your Decorations go up? I go for 2 weeks before, even under intense pressure from 6 and 9 year old for an earlier deployment

The unofficial kick-off date for the Christmas season over here is December 8th (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception) and I like at least to put the tree up then. However given that Aer John's birthday is December 9th it became a moveable feast in the past thanks to the hordes of rambunctious schoolboys rampaging raging through the house during birthday parties. The tree wouldn't have stood a chance. [:0]

I love Christmas decorations. They are a good excuse for not dusting [:D]

It has been a family tradition ever since I was young, to put them up on the 1st Sunday of December, however Luke is mortified that the first Sunday isn't until the 7th this year so has decided that November 30th will have to be the day for us this year!

Up on Christmas Eve; down on the 27th. Well, at least I wish it was so. Treat it like Easter, I reckon - a few boozy days than back to work.

Being in Oz last Christmas meant very little tinsel, no tree to speak of and only one or two very small presents, and it was such a relief not to have to go to all the fuss. It was equally nice not to be bombarded with Argos, Boots and WHSmith ads (before the 24th) and MFI, DFS and Land of Leather ads (after the 24th). I ask you, who on earth wants to be waiting outside the doors of tatty discount sofa store in the freezing cold at 7am on Boxing Day?!? Morons...

Ours go up about two weeks before. That and the roaring fire makes a really nice scene.

To my mother's consternation we always take our decorations down on the 1st Jan. There is notnhing more depressing than seeing a Christmas tree on the 4th when its the last thing you want to think off (I have to unfortunately though, Christmas 2009 cards need to be sorted asap!).

Neil - an open invitation, I bet our tree will be camper than yours....

I have voted 'about two weeks before' which is probably about right. I USED to be keener (and it would be about 1st December), but I have had a less keen relationship with Christmas the past couple of years... [ii]

We normally go away (USA) around the 3rd/5th January - so they are down by then.

Our house is on the market at the moment, so I have NO IDEA what will happen this year... If it hasn't sold by then, will probably take a quite late and minimal approach (just in case - although probably unlikely - we have any viewings around that time...).

Lol - quite possibly. we shall have to compare photos. Although, we have just spent over an hour at the shops looking at new Christmas decorations and other festive things as everything we have used for the past 5 years now suddenly won't go since we have re-done our lounge (not my words/thoughts by the way!), so we are now having to spend FAR too much money on all new stuff (135 tonight, with Luke having plenty more earmarked for purchase too[ii]).

Ours goes up right after thanks giving, comes down..well last year, I think it was May time, this year as I am not working nearly as many hours, I will have to find a different excuse [ii]

We are always in Florida for Christmas - I'm not sure when most people put up the decorations but they come down on the 27th December - our friends were bemused to hear about 12th night being the superstition.
What does freak me out is that on 27th December all the shops are selling Valentine cards and gifts and some have Easter memorabilia. Loads of Valentine cards for the dog/cat/teacher/you name it! Virtually all trace of Christmas has gone from everywhere.

Bah humbug! We dont put up any decorations or even have a tree. [:D]

My out-laws don't either... one of the reasons that we don't generally go there for Christmas (that and the 'cremated' turkey...[:$] ).

Don't do decorations. Seeing as my Christmas is usually spent at work, earning loads, doing very little, decorations are a bit of a waste.

We buy a tree from the farm at the top of the road on the weekend immediately before 23rd December, our wedding anniversary.

* Purchase 8' blue spruce
* Clean out excess branches to create shelf-and-spoke effect
* Drape multiple strands of white fairy lights
* Hang 45 Baccarat, multi-colour crystal ornaments
* Set up antique train beneath tree
* Drink heavily for two weeks
