Excellent photos, slightly OT but we have the remnants of an a F117 Nighthawk stelth fighter in the Avaition Musueum here in Belgrade. The only one ever to be shot down in a combat mission. Great story as well how they detected and shot it down, bit I'll leave that for another time.

Might be one at the Air Tattoo at Fairford in July.
Last time I went to the tattoo, it did a flypast on route to Germany from the USA.

If you select the 'Huge' view option the detail is amazing, the control surfaces, even the pilots in the Raptors. I am surprised the US military allows this on public site.

We saw F22 Raptors when in Anchorage last September, the climb rate and noise they make is awesome.

Neither the B2 or F22 are listed as being at Fairford at the moment.
I might well go along to it this year (weather permitting).

Yeah, at the moment they not listed to show but they are often the last ones to be announced.

IIRC at the start of either Afghanistan or Iraq war- the US had Stealths and B52s based at Fairford. Was not uncommon to see these beasts flying over South Oxfordshire leaving/returning from Fairford.
In fact isn't Fairford one of the few places outside the US that has specially designed hangers (temperature controlled) for the Stealth and is also a designated Space Shuttle landing field (I beleive with a team of NASA specialists based there when the Shuttle is in orbit).

Wish they'd fly them in and out of Brize Norton [;)]
Anyone know if Ohio's National Museum of the US Air Force still has its Stealth? I'd seriously make the day trip over to be able to touch one. [/nerd]
Thanks,
Sarah

B52s definately go to Fairford, B2s have stopped off to test the facilities as Willd is correct in that it has special hangers but B2s tend fly missions direct from AFB Whiteman refueling on the way. Fairford is still designated as a Space Shuttle emergency landing site.
