V-Flyer

Would some people be so kind as to recommend me somewhere to stay in Paris, not too shabby and not silly money though, near the centre and safe to wander about. Something similar to Hotel41 in London.

Any tips on how to enjoy a few day in Paris also appreciated.

Have you checked out the Priceline sites for winning bids? E.g. This one.

I stayed at the Renaissance Paris Hotel La Defense last year, was very nice, and not too far out and handy for the Metro/RER either. I'd possibly stay a bit closer next time, though I'd try priceline and save some money too.

We stayed at Htel La Villa d'Estres , not to bad at all, though try not to get a courtyard room.

Also just around the corner there are some very nice coffee shops.

That's funny - I've just booked that for a long weekend in September! Thanks for the tip on the rooms - it's in a great location too!

We loved the location, we booked a suite which may of been our mistake, the view from the room, well sucked, but the hotel was nice enough, it bills itself as a 4 star, I would say it's more of a good 3 star.

I don't know what you mean by 'silly money,' really -- it's all relative -- but these rooms suit one well and deliver extraordinary combinations of comfort and unrivaled service.

I quite agree - 'silly money' is a silly phrase in my book.

Plus the Ritz DO some fantastic deals - I love to stay there !

Gee thanks for that, I never cease to feel welcome on V-flyer just lately.

Silly money to me is 950 a night for a standard room which have come up at Four Seasons and the ritz.

I will go be silly somewhere else now shall I geez.

We had a great stay at the Sofitel Le Faubourg on an airmiles stay, so just got their basic 'luxury room' which had the ever fantasic Sofitel Beds and Hermes toiletries. Good breakfast and 2 mins walk to Place de La Concorde, Rue de Rivoli and then over to the Tuileries and Musee D'Orsay. Rates are around 200 and upwards depending on room type.

As to how to enjoy a few days, I'd suggest getting a ticket for the Navette (Batobus)and get on and off at most of the stops, it's a circular route - 16 for 2 days or 19 for five days. The stops are Tour Eiffel, Muse d'Orsay, Saint-Germain-des-Pres, Ntre-Dame, and Jardin des Plantes on the Left Bank; Htel de Ville (Notre Dame and Isle de La Cite), Louvre, and Champs-Elyses on the Right Bank. Jardin Des Plantes is a lovely place to take a picnic and a book and to watch the world go by, although it has it's fair share of interesting things to look at too. Better in my opinion than a much more expensive river cruise.

Personally, I think that for just a few days you won't go wrong staying by the river. If you like walking you can miss out a few Batobus stops, for example you can walk through the park from the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre, or from the Louvre you can walk back along the Rue de Rivoli and do some shopping.

See GJ, I would have thought you were more for the Imperial Suite:

'This suite has accomodated many a queen..'

The Windsor Suite at the Ritz looks a bit better than the Windsor Suite that Sarah and I stayed in a couple of years ago.
