With apologies if it's been asked before but why do planes never take off from 9L and land on 9R?

and living as I do under the fight path, albeit in the East End, it is lovely when they do reverse it, albeit very rarely. Although I used to love to see and hear/feel Concorde rattle my sitting room windows twice a day.
