OK, I know...another football thread.

Deal with it.

This one is specifically about the England World Cup team, its chances, its competition, and anything else attached to the event (South African sites/attractions, hotels, package deals, tickets, etc.).

SO...to kick us off...

HOW ABOUT THAT DRAW?!?!?

Yippee! We kick off against the gormless Americans, then play the towering football mightiness known as Algeria and then wrap-up a faultless cruise to the finals with a thumping of Slovenia.

Do you agree? And is not Group G (Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast and Serbia) not the Group of Death??? I hope to god someone sends out Portugal in these stages. I would love to see Ronnie crying. And will Drogba take his Ivorians all the way?

And should Ireland have been in the World cup (I can hold a grudge with the best of them [}:)])

Yes they should have, HL. I'm appalled by France.

I was amused to hear the US Coach on TV last night jubilantly exclaim that given the group they were in they stood aa real chance of getting through to the next round.

From what I have heard the team hotel is very nice and it comes with lots of entertainment and exercise stuff.

On a different note, one of our local restaurants here in Vegas Via Brazil will be showing the games live and keeping the kitchen open.

So if you feel like catching a game be sure to check with them to see if they are open...Great food btw.

Well to be fair, I think he was right. They may not win the group but second place shouldn't be a problem and there's nothing to say they can't beat England either and go through as winners.

The top two go through and for those who don't know USA are the 14th best team in the world accordign to the FIFA rankings.

USA aren't that bad a side these days from what I've seen of them.

Not bad, but should give England the sort of game they/we relish. Not a flair team.

TBH, since the World Cup went to 32 teams you get about one group of death. I felt 24 teams gave you something to play for, and actually liked the setup they had in 1982 where you had groups in the second round. More tactical, and no penalties likely required until you reach the semis. YMMV

Not too bad a draw for us(England) I guess. I just hope the media don't do their usual trick and build the team up so much prior to the finals that the England team are under extreme pressure right from the start of the first match[V]

They've already started.
Same old story, build em up and then slaughter them when they 'fail'.

Tut Tut Tut Iain [:)] I rather suspect the sales of USA, Slovenia and Algeria shirts are going to go through the roof north of the border[:D]
I am still mentally scarred from watching England play Portugal in Euro 2004 in a bar in Oban[n]The locals didn't rub it in........much
