Hmm.. interesting development.
Whilst I am no fan of rynascare, it seems a bit arbitrary for one EU government to decide that a particular airline is guilty, and to impose a huge fine in this way.
What will happen to the money (if it is paid)? Will it go to the passengers as compensation, or just line the Italian government's pockets?
Do the airline (or other airlines) have any right to appeal - or even a right to a fair hearing?
This could be a nice little earner for all the EU governments, if each of them decides to have a go at every airline who, in their opinion did not act properly during the volcano crisis.

I'm just waiting for the MOL tantrum. All that is needed now is Neelie Kroes to put her nose in and generate obscene amounts of money in the form of fines.
