Has anyone actually got the new police website to work?? Thought I would go on and have a look to see just how dire our street might be Doesn't even load. Problems.....me thinks, how predictable

According to Radio 2, they weren't prepared for the demand, and the website can't cope.

When I read about the website this morning in the paper, I just knew that would happen

There are issues - I sent Nick Herbert a message this morning. For Example: It wont work through the Government Firewall as it has java script which is not allowed also it doesnt work with BlackBerrys.

I am sure when these glitches are sorted it will prove to be a most useful tool

I've been trying since lunch. Managed to get the main screen to load but after entering my postcode, it crashes!

Launched with big fanfare, loads of tech. issues, peaking demand, service failure. How many times have we heard that with Gov Web sites ...

Usual problem. web server dimensioned for so many hits per minute, but due to fanfare in media server receives 10x that number.

Give it a week and the rush dies down, all will be well.

I looked at it 00:20 last night and no problems!

yes there was some crime where I live but the usual burglary and a car being nicked.

The way some in the media have reacted you'd think there was an instant crime wave !

This is actually nothing new, for a long time you have been able to get this data for where you live, although you had to go to the website of the force area you live in, this just puts it in one place.

e.g if i go to Hampshire Police and i put in my postcode it gives me the data and even gives the Fire and Rescue service data for calls to the area (if youa re interested), although it only goes up to Sept 2010 so it is a bit behind. But i guess no force will have it right up to the minute

So not sure its worth the £300k it cost to set up

report in the Standard that crimes commited at LHR were allocated to two random streets nearby!

Now I would have thought that LHR would have its own post code and to me there is no sensible reason that crimes there should have been allocated eleswhere.

I checked about 6am this morning and it was working - apparently we are average which surprises me given the number of smashed car windows I come across!

Spot on ! this data has been available online for quiet a while ! What does suprise me is the fanfare and that failure to deliver - Nick hasnt come back to me which is suprising so suspect some embarrased faces in the HO. I am sure when it gets sorted it will prove a helpful and popular tool

I'm guessing drug related as we seem to get dealers hanging around a footpath at the far end of the street.
