I'm certainly celebrating the fact that I'll be having a quiet day and an early escape from the office, with all my US colleagues out...

I'm just about to go to bed having started the celebrations here a day early with the local fireworks display and a party at my host's house

Happy 4th July!!
I remember a few years back whilst in Tucson, sitting on my friends grandmothers roof and watching the fireworks from "A" Mountain - some good home made fried chicken and mashed potatoes! I wish I was there!!!

I can empathise with that, although I'm off to Grange Opera today because the opportunity for no interruptions was to good!

The roof????
That sounds like a really neat way to celebrate. I need to borrow a friend who has a grandmother like that!

I did not venture out to see the fireworks at the National Mall here in Washington DC because I thought some stormy weather was coming our way. The storm eventually avoided DC completely and I did not get to see the fireworks but I could still hear them from where I live in the District. Happy July 4th, everyone!

We watched the fireworks last night from my host's back garden (or should I say back yard?) which was great as we had an unimpeded view as well as several drinkie-poos and a party.
