Virgin Media to bring Wi-Fi to the Tube

Thought some may be interested,

Virgin Media have been awarded the contract to provide Wi-Fi at up to 120 Tube stations by the end of the year. It's hoped that 100 will be ready before the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Priority is for Zones 1 & 2 and Olympic interchange stations.

It will only be at stations, not between.

Also it will be free before the Olympics, chargeable after.

So we have to pay to use WiFi which cuts out between stations? Sounds pointless to me.

Depends how long you are waiting for a train.

Better than nothing.

Well from LUL's point of view, it's costing them nothing to put it in. Staff blackberrys will have use of the Wi-FI so staff can easily give customers, to the minute information regarding next trains, line status, what the closest station is to the very important job interview they are running late for etc.
Currently the blackberrys only work above ground and in decent signal, so will help out at stations underground.

Hopefully it will improve customer service scores y)
