The LHR CH will be very V-Flyer busy on 2nd Nov - take a look at the Itin forum!

Would be great to see more people there!
Will now look into arranging a group dinner on the Friday or Saturday evening. Sure some of our American Chums will be flying across or up to join in!
For info N return is approx £285 and X return is approx £335 at the moment. A K PE is around £707.
For hotels, there are good rates at the Hilton and I have a block of rooms at the Sheraton too for $179.25/night..
Thanks,
Richard

Expertflyer is showing both flights absolutely wide open at the moment. Straight sevens in every class.

$81 is for a Business Seat. First is a slightly better seat, but includes food and drink.
There is always a possibility of doing a drive from BOS to NYC for those that want a cheaper option....
Thanks,
Richard

Or fly?
I'd like the train in Business myself, but we do have the issue of luggage when we arrive in NYC ... Suggestions?
Thanks,
Sarah

I would vote for the train, we will test out the left luggage issues, when we do our 'dry run' next week.
We are getting the earlier train that leaves BOS around 8am and gets into NYC at 12.20pm. That way we can have a bit of a mooch round Times Square / 5th Ave. before we head out to JFK. (Subject to sorting the luggage quandry).

Mention was mentioned in the early planning stages, about sporting events.
According to
Boston.com, (log-in may be required). The Celtics (basketball) are at home on the Friday night we are there, and the Bruins (Ice Hockey) are at home on the Saturday night.
Any takers?

Good call! Anybody have a preference for train times? We originally mooted the 11.10am departure ($81/business)
2253 Acela Express
05-NOV-06
Boston, MA. South Station 11:10 am
New York, NY, Penn Station 2:45 pm
3h 35m Snack car Business Seat
The train before that leaves at 09.40am (getting to Penn station just before 2pm - time for a quick meander around New Yoik?)
For the particularly thrifty, the 08.40am departure costs $54!!
Thoughts? Would be nice to get this organised before those marathon runners steal our business seats

Thanks,
Sarah

ISTBC but, I wouldn't have thought that the marathon will be too much of a bother to us. They, and the spectators will have to be in NYC a lot earlier than us on the Sunday morning.
I am all for the earlier train so that we can have a wander round NYC, but will know more after our dry run next week.

Well the as to booking the 11AM train I would say you all would be fine. The problem is from NYC to JFK. The race offically ends at 6:40 PM. Traffic in the city will be crazy, especially since I bet you all will want to get to the CH early. I would suggest public transport OR heli transport. They have it

Any final takers for the trip?
Any of our American cousins flyign across to join in?
I have a couple of room left in the block booking at the Sheraton that I'll be cancelling in the week if they aren't needed.
Thanks,
Richard

Ben
Would be fab to catch up with you again (and Floydita!

)
We will be in BOS Thursday to Sunday, no set plans, probably just the usual shopping, eating, drinking and maybe transit past the token tourist stops. We were going to head down to NYC on Sunday morning and to Manhattan though we might opt for a nice lunch in Boston instead if the roads are going to be manic. We really haven't got a solid plan as yet, but if you can get up to MA over the weekend that would be pretty cool. (Its a rouse for a few more signatures for the book isnt it?

)
Thanks,
Sarah

So sorry to be missing this rendezvous in my own backyard, but I know you will have a lovely time. Warm weather is forecast for Boston for HallowŽen and perhaps it will stay for a few days. I'm sure you have a busy agenda but if you are looking for lively music--try Club Passim (THE original folk house), Middle East (indie/alt rock) or the Opera House (musical theater) to cover a broad spectrum of possibilities.
If you decide to go to Middle East--and happen to be a meat eater--RedBone is nearby and the place to go for great bbq ribs. They do a good catfish as well.
A walk (or skate) by the Charles, a visit to the unique and lovely Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, maybe even succombing to a Duck Tour or a walk on the Freedom Trail, a cappuccino in an open North End cafe, Boston is a great city to explore on foot.
Ah but Scotland is lovely as well and it is from here that I wish you all the very best of brief holidays. Not sure if you have decided to take the Acela to NYC but if so, it is a great train ride with lots of sea views.
Cheers and looking forward to your reports.
