Bay to Breakers 2009! Earlybird Thread

Bit early I know, but as per this year.

Race is on Sunday 17th May.

All of us really enjoyed the event, even though a number of us were not really looking forward to it at all. The atmosphere and fun is immense - jsut don't get the damn MUNI bus afterwards. You have to really worry when:

- The bus takes longer to get 2/3rds the way back as it did for Shaw to finish the entire race
- The bus driver stops a third of the way in and asks a pedestrian for directions

With that in mind, the plan for the stretch limo/Hummer with pool was touted by Reiffer and looks like a sensible option!

So who is interested in participating next year? There may be a side trip to Vegas of course [:p]

Dave can assist with Vegas hotels, I can assist with San Francisco hotels.

Thanks,
Richard

It needs to be in fancy dress though!

Would have to agree that its a very fun event. I was petrified of the idea of entering this but its more like Mardi Gras with all the loons in fancy dress. Dean even got beads [:)] The 12km distance really is do-able and far easier than i thought it would be, so i think we'll be in attendance next year in order to beat our race times [:)]

Thanks,
Sarah

Ahem, I thought you were 'never staying there again' ?

Anyway, we *could* get a proper after-party sorted out in Vegas for next year. On the 45th floor somewhere...

Realistically, however, registration doesn't open until January/February-ish time 2009. As with all things that end up going a little stale if planned too far in advance, I'd say people should put the date in the diary but let's keep it on the back-burner for now.

Good idea.

Now Paul have you actually written into your diary / crackberry / outlook / told your pa or whatever scheduling system you use. There have been a few socials that you managed to forget or double book.

I certainly won't run - the cheek! - but I will host the post-run dinner and cocktails at a suitable feed bag. My treat.

See you in 09.

Too late, GJ - we're off to the Foundation Room. A private jet is (seriously) being looked at for a rather extravagant 'after party' from SF to Vegas for the night... [:w]

You are, of course, welcome (subject to Pete's approval of the 'guest list' of non-runners) [;)]

I still think the Private Jet idea is a cool one, and I'm still up for it.

Is everyone still up for Limo rather than the Muni?

I'd rather walk back than face another episode on the MUNI.

Just a word to anyone thinking of joining the party - Private Jets and Limos won't be compulsory. I am sure there will be plenty of us 'ordinary people' using VX and the BART. [;)][}:)][:D]

You'd be surprised Nick. The deal we're looking at would come in at $800/head for a Citation X (fastest business jet in the world) from SF to a private party on top of the Mandalay Bay, then 'home' again in the morning (ie: 5am - or whenever we decide).

Of course, there might be the option of staying around in Vegas for a few days too... [;)]

Anyway, I'm out, until at least Jan/Feb for booking anything (as I have done every year).

And I must say, I was very impressed by VX. Well worth the extra $15 for the premium seating in row 3. As Nick said, sure there will be people going via a variety of routes next year [;)]

As to the Limo, well given that all 9 of us paid $7 each for the damn Muni and we could have got a limo for not much more, it's a no brainer really for next year.

No issue with the BART either, we used it on the outbound sector. Just couldn't face it after the race...

Thanks,
Richard

Jet? Maybe. Would be cool; especially on a C750. Anyone got a NetJets or Marquis Card I could use? Promise to return it...maybe.

Limo? Well I thought that was the plan for 2008, but I forgot to arrange it. Grr. Oh and lets provide the drive a map with route drawn.

I just hate Vegas...any chance we could fly to Sparks, instead?
