Scouts In Bondage

Our Glorious Leader is co-producing this play at the King's Head Theatre, Islington. London. from November 12th to January 10th.

Last year some of us met up for a performance of Boys of the Empire at the same location. Is anyone up for a return for the latest production? Perhaps a pre-christmas get-together.

Hopefully this time I can get through the evening without having too many drinks land on me...[:?]

Ah, Thanks Darren. I would be more than happy to see a crowd from V-Flyer at the show. It even features a bit about aviation (although I admit that's a tenuous link...) as our plucky Scouts start the show flying off from Croydon Airport upon an Imperial Airways Handley Page HP42. [;)]

And in case you hadn't realised - yes, it's a comedy!

So me inviting the local Beaver Colony might not be such a good idea after all[:I]

Will certainly be coming along to see the Show as the cast have an excellent track record[:w]

Looks like a winner. Is there a date in mind - just to start things off we are around Sat 28th November?

There will be two shows on Saturday 28th Nov, one at 5.30pm and an evening show at 8.00pm. The week after that it switches to the late-night performances, so that night is not a bad choice if people still need to make a train home out of London.

We are back in the UK for Christmas - and plan to see Scouts In Bondage between Christmas and New Year. The boys of the Empire was great and we are looking forward to this.

I am checking with the theatre to see whether we can arrange a group price deal for the 28th, but allow people to book separately. I shall keep you informed...

I have set up a 10% discount on standard seats for V-Flyers wanting to see the performance on the 28th November. That means they are 13.50 rather than the normal 15.

I've asked them to be valid for both the 5.30pm & 8.00pm performances, since you haven't yet decided on which one to go for - so the option is there for both.

This has only just gone through to the theatre, so don't know if it'll be live immediately, but to get tickets at this price you can call the normal booking line (0844 209 0326) and quote 'V-Flyer' for the special offer on the 28th November. I suspect I'll be around for both shows.

For those wanting to be elitist [;-)], there are premium reserved seats at 18.50 (which gets you a seat with your name on it in the middle of the first few rows, and handy if you think you might be late getting there), but the discount doesn't apply to those, and to be fair, if you're going as a group, you probably won't need to worry too much about reserving seats.

Grateful thanks for setting this up[oo]

My preference would be for the Matinee as this gives more time for socialising before catching the train home[}:)]

As always though Go with the Flow[:D][:D][:D][:D]

There's a great french bistro nearby called Le Mercury if a post show V-Flyer meal is being considered.

I've eaten in Le Mercury with a group, and to be honest, the service was a little poor and the group menu forced upon us a bit limited.

As I'm pretty familiar with the eateries in the area now, here's a few suggestions:

Carluccico's directly opposite the theatre, bright, clean and consistently good
Isarn marvellous Thai (a bit like Busaba, for those familiar with that overly-popular central London restaurant)
Gallipoli about three of these Turkish restaurants within a minute of the King's Head. Ok, but nothing special
Le Sacre Coeur French Bistro, although it feels like what a French Bistro would be if it were run by a Greek fella.
Strada, pizza & pasta chain, ok for lunch...

And there's loads of other choices too, as you can see from this map (The King's Head is between numbers 25 & 29 on the west hand side of the road - bear in mind Upper Street is very long, so you won't want to choose somewhere too far away unless you've packed hiking boots).

I am with your there Pete - Le Mercury is very poor.

La sacre coeur has a much better sister resutarant just across the street - La Petite Auberge which may be worth considering (again living in the neighbourhood helps know the wheat from the chaff) [:w]) - a lunch time meal would be devoid of atmoshpere as Islington is definately a night owl place.

We've got tickets for the 5.30 performance too - up for drinks and/or supper afterwards if others are doing the same. Sounds as if our choice of restaurant won't suit but as Pete says there are plenty to choose from. [y]

I assume the V-Flyer code word is working out with the box office then? I ask for these things to be set up, but I'm never 100% sure the message gets through ;-)

I'd raise that issue with the producer....
