This has been discussed MANY times. There are strong arguments both ways.

Those against the idea say that we are an Aviation and Travel site and a forum along the lines of FT's OMNI would detract from this, and lead to arguments and unmoderatable threads. Also, that there are lots of other sites on the web to talk about 'anything' - including FT. The 'troll factor' also comes into play - people coming to the site just to stir up trouble in the discussions.

Those in favour say it would increase the community spirit of the site, and increase the focus of the aviation / travel forums by taking out the off topic threads.

We are getting closer to a big site re-vamp and a complete overhaul, so 'watch this space' as they say. [8D];)

pixuk is the 'ultimate arbiter', as we like to call him. [8D]

Thanks for the suggestion, if anyone ever has any thoughts on how to make the website better, we always like to hear them.

One suggestion that has been made is making more of the Clubhouse, so that the 'off topic chat room' is a paid members only facility. This would eliminate the 'troll' worries.

Another, well advanced, debate is to move the whole site to a 'pay to post' model.

Is that pay per post or to post one must have bought a membership kit - the former I would not be happy with[:?]

Sorry, should have made it clearer - the suggestion is that only paid members of the site would have the ability to post in some or all of the forums, NOT a fee for each post made. (I couldn't afford the latter. [8D];) )

OK, thanks, Nick - pay per post would probably eliminate pointless posting though, and seeing as we'd all be broke as a result, most probably all other posting too;)

""Pay per Post"... Now there's an interesting business model.

RyanAir-flyer.com anyone? [:?]

:D:D:D

Of course what would happen then, eventually it would move from "pay per post" to "pay to view" then "pay to view each post" [:0][:w]
