On a disconnected topic, went to the funeral of a fellow pilot the other day. It brought to mind years ago when we were Junior Jets (2 rings, not VS) walking along the none-too-well illuminated corridor of the slip hotel. A door opened and a pair of shoes was held out, with a peremptory 'Would you clean these for me?'
My recently deceased friend replied, 'Yes of course sir, we're rushing for a stretcher to move a guest who's been taken ill. Just leave your shoes outside your door and I'll be back in a moment for them.'
