This has probably been asked a thousand time but just wondered what the chances of us been able to purchase an upgrade at check in and how much they usually go for. We are taking my brother to New York on Sunday as a treat as he has just got the all clear after having 2 brain tumours last year . I emailed customer service but they said they couldny help so just looking at other options. We are travelling on VS009 on Sunday at 16.00 from LHR to JFK

What cabin are you travelling in, and what cabin are you looking to go for? They will certainly offer you a price if there is availability.

In past experience, which is by no means a firm indicator of what you may be quoted, I've been offered:

Economy -> PE for £199
PE -> Upper for £750

Thanks Guy , I'll defiantly ask we are currently in economy but usually travel PE. It will have to be a good price as I don't think the perks are as good as they used to be. We have the front row of economy booked so might be best spending the money on 4 upgrades in NYC.

Having just returned from Barbados we upgraded at the airport although we were on reward tickets we went to PE for the princely sum of £10 each. :-D

But as others have said always worth asking

Check in manage bookings as VS often advertise upgrades there in advance.

The price is the price and isn't negotiable.

Also depends on what type of ticket.
The cheapest ticket isn't going to be upgrade-able.
We were on the cheapest PE a few years ago and asked for upgrade at the desk.
It was going to be over £900 for one seat in upper.

My ticket isn't upgradable online but I'm going to ask at the desk as the aircraft isn't looking full as yet. Last time we flew PE to New York we got to the gate and we're advised we had been upgraded to upper all 3 of us. :-D They say lightning doesn't strike twice so I'll prepare for my economy seat just to avoid disappointment ... thanks again guys for your advice
