Wotcha...

My parents want to go to Vancouver from the UK next year for my father's 70th, but longhaul in Y class is not on due to their age and first class with another carrier is also not on due to the wallet-lightening characteristics of such a choice. I've got slightly over 50k FC points in my account from years of determinedly slogging across the pond in the back of the van - and as of today, a free economy flight/50K FC point voucher due to volunteering to wait an extra day coming back on an oversold flight.

My cunning plan is this: get el parentes to book Premium Economy flights LHR/SFO - total cost around 2k - which I then donate 80k FC points to in order to get the upgrade to Upper. They can then do the short hop up to Vancouver (I've seen the other thread on this - valuable info! Is SFO becoming an informal hub for Virginistas visiting Canada?).

Does this all make sense? Are there alternatives I should be thinking about?
