Sorry for delay...v busy past few weeks!

Stellar ride with Boston Coach despite Ted Williams tunnel closure and snaking through north Boston to reach Logan. Waved quickly over for check in at UC desk, bags checked and met friends for pre-flight drinks at Dine Boston. Terminal E seemed curiously empty for this height-of-the-season travel time...and security was quick.

Spent a little time in NW lounge, largely due to the sad conversion of many of the rocking chairs to odd satellite seating and had to leg it to flight as there was no lounge call (nor much else on offer really).

Gained seats, glanced at sad black amenities cardboard parcel and offered fizz. Full down back but very light downstairs UC (I think upstairs was full though). No further contact from crew for quite a long time until meal and drink orders taken, not much choice there, as there were just two--steak or portabello, which, not being a steak eater, I chose and instantly regretted after first bite. Lukewarm, it was inexcusably awful. Absence of crew meant no offer of cheese or further wine so took myself off to bar for a Glenmorhangie and went back to sleep, which I did a very good job of until I was woken out of that very sound and lovely sleep by a member of the FC who informed me that he needed cash for my tax free purchase of a laptop converter RIGHT THIS MOMENT.
I was so nonplussed I just bumbled around and found the cash, stuck it in his hand and went back to sleep. It was only after I woke again (having skipped breakfast to sleep)and we were deplaning, that I realized I still didn't have the converter. It was rapidly handed over and the young man aplogetic but thinking back, I mean... whaaaat? Realizing that it is a short flight anyway, I do still blame that sleep interruption for making my next day miserable as I dragged along.

All in all, a smooth flight in terms of boarding, comfort but really sad in terms of food and FC, who were certainly well meaning but simply not present when wanted and far too present when not!

Of course I have since thanked my lucky stars as we arrived just prior to the whole following UK-US air debacle where I know we would have been delighted just to have reached our destination on time. [:(]

whoops--forgot Revivals! Still no hot water--so we were escorted to the United Lounge where I took a lovely, long shower--bath robe, thick, thirsty towels AND a fabulous amenity kit/wash bag, which United were gracious enough to allow me to keep, making Virgin seem very, very small.

Thanks, Roadrunner - sorry about your sleep interruptions. On such a short flight (relatively) any time you get to sleep is precious and even losing a bit can seem like a lot. I suppose upstairs was full as many people wanted to do as you did and try and sleep as much as possible[|)]

Interesting comments and sounds like a poor crew again on BOS-LHR. Maybe because it's a short flight they just don't bother ... both my recent flights have been similar (yet it's no cheaper that NY or Washington!), I'll report back later in the week too.

Wow! United gets ahead of VS in one small way. Of course United FF's on upgraded or award tix are not allowed to use that lounge, even when they buy $000's of miles on behalf of their company as an MP partner and their contact at UAL lobbies hard on their behalf.
