Hm. What are VS trying to do by bringing in 'externals' to take a flagship role? Are they trying to aggrevate their existing staff by removing their opportunities for progression through the company?
As for smiles vs. skills, give me skills and speed any day. If they smile, even better!
I expect a vanilla check-in for a lone traveller, with one checked piece, all paperwork in order (e.g. APIS already provided, ETA/Visa all sorted), to take less than 2 minutes (probably less than a minute, but without feeling rushed, with a good clerk) from walking up to the counter.
