(For the uninitiated, look HERE for some examples of why not. Dark glasses are recommended... [8D]

Rather bizarrely, I can't officially do the 19th; I'll be out with friends celebrating my birthday.

buy me a birthday pint and prove to my mates that not all V-Flyers are nerds, I'm sure it would be quite jolly...

Okay, so are we going to make this official on the 19th September so we can pin a rough plan together? [:)]

Thanks,

Although I believe Mark should give a PTR (pre-trip report) on places to go or not...obviously to be taken with a pinch of salt...However if he's after a drink from us, we'll need to know his route.

My knowledge of drinking establishments, runs very hazzy after the 'one by the river, that always gets flooded'

There's always the Jorvic Centre for more geeky fun in the afternoon, situated in town centre.

Yes. Quite. Don't really do yourselves any favours, do you? All I ask is that you leave your anoraks at home...

After nearly 10 years of doing our York Pub Crawl, I feel I'm pretty well versed in where's hot and where you're likely to get a punch in the mouth - or worse still, a woo woo. I can easily post a list/map of decent pubs (there are some very good pubs in York, assuming you like beer) and which ones you might be able to meet and greet the mdvipond party in if you like.

I suppose we'd better look at hotels. The Premier is quoting 156 for a Fri/Sat night

Mr Vipond - any hotel and bar recommendations for us plane nerds? I'll look and see if we get any good rates at hotels in York over the weekend.

Thanks,
Sarah

From Harrogate or living in Harrogate? I live in that lovely town [:D]. Not sure I'll be popping my v-flyer social cherry though as I may be away.

I've never stayed overnight in York before - I only live 25 minutes away, so hardly worth it. However, I hear good things about two hotels already mentioned in this thread: Hotel Du Vin (not cheap, looks nice, quite central) and the Premier Inn (much more reasonable, also pretty central).

Another place that some friends have recommended in the past is the Dean Court Hotel, which is in a cracking location, right next to the Minister. I think it's a Best Western now, so it shouldn't exactly break the bank.

I can make the 19/20 Sept in York. Can get there by train too so I can be free to indulge in a beer (or T10&T) or two.

The only question I would like to ask is are the v-flyer Mods planning a big meeting of any sort about the website in York? Only asking as I recall reading a few apologies from the Mods / v-f Team after the MAN meet-up - I got the impression they were holed-up in a meeting on v-flyer related stuff for longer than was expected / planned.

Of course, the main reason for the weekend in York would be drinks & fun, but would like to get the chance to say hello to the people who have not had to moderate many of my posts.

Cheers
James
