Only J and F pax may check in baggage on long haul without facing severe delays or journey curtailment.

The following passengers flying from London Heathrow Terminal 4 on Wednesday 20 February

Should not bring luggage to be checked in.

Jeez, must be aright mess if that's what they are saying. May as well just shut up shop and hang the closed sign up.

What? - so Mr & Mrs Bloggs who are going on their honeymoon for 2 weeks on a Long haul flight can't check any luggage in, not good at all.

I imagine VS and others must be rubbing their hands at this one, will p*ss off a lot of pax and make them think about who to fly with next time.

As Neil says, VS & other carriers that don't use T4 must be loving this. To restrict a long-haul passenger in Y or W to hand baggage only with the current hand baggage restrictions is a complete joke.

How can BAA let the baggage system get into a state where it fails [clearly in quite a big way too]? I remember back on one episode of BBC's "Airport" the T4 baggage system failed then & they had big backlog of checked bags to feed down - the BAA guy was there telling them to send them down slowly so as not to overload the system.

I wonder how fast BAA would fix the till system in one of the World Duty Free shops if it failed? I would bet on it being fast & they would find an alternative way of accepting payment while the system was down too!

Holy Cr@p, What a shambolic situation. [n][n][n]

I wouldn't want to be involved in that mess today and pity any poor souls booked in Y or WTP.

Hard hats and flak jackets for the poor staff involved also. [B)]

Wonder what compo BA will be demanding from BAA for this...[:?]

Ditto the above. An apalling mess. Why do we let BAA get away with this, and so many other examples of such poor service?

BA's rep will suffer from this, and won't be rescued by "..but everything will be brilliant when T5 opens..." responses.

Updated advice for today:

ALL transfer passengers through London Heathrow Terminal 4 should not bring luggage to be checked in as they will not be able to travel. Transfer customers affected by this should contact the airline.

All passengers starting their journey and checking in at London Heathrow Terminal 4 can check their luggage in as normal.

All passengers starting their journey from or transferring through London Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 or 3 can check their luggage in as normal.
