Speaking only as a paying passenger... I'd like to see healthy competition encouraging Virgin to get better and stronger, rather than simply wishing their competitors dead. The anti-competitive attitude is what BA got a bad reputation for. Have VA given up trying to make things better? Running a service from LCY to JFK is the type of creative thinking that Virgin used to have a great reputation for many years ago - now they're flying the PM around.

It hurts when a company realises they're more establishment than the establishment!!!

I hope they don't RIP, as that will be many more people out of work, looking for jobs in an industry that is already suffering.

So Capt.Pag do you think Ba's proposed link up with AA will be good for VS? Do you think it will be good for competition? Will it be good for the passenger?

Creative thinking on BA's part? Maybe. Desperation? perhaps. I think it is probably too little too late. They cannot keep losing money at the rate they are and still survive.

Will the Government bail them out? I hope not. I am sure VS wouldn't get that treatment. I say let them implode and free up those LHR slots.

Only then you will see true competition IMHO.

Personally I think BA's new schedule to JFK from LCY should be applauded if not a little mistimed. I hope it works, I really do. Also I for one would not wish BA dead as I have too many flights booked with them and so many personal friends who work for them would be out a job.
The UK needs BA AND VS if we are to combat the ever growing Luftwaffe.

I don't know enough about the industry, or BA's proposed deal with AA, to answer your question properly... but I am a intrigued by your post...

Are you saying BA's proposed deal with AA will make them so strong it's anti-competitive or are you saying they are so weak they can not survive as they are? I do understand that it's possible for BA to be both too strong and too weak at the same time but, I'm unsure which situation is actually best for the passenger?

Normally, the accusation levelled against BA is that they use anti-competitive practices (such as subsidised pricing) to force the competition off a particular route. I hate that business practise as much as anyone else, but to me, the LCY-JFK service appeared to be a totally new idea.

The point I was trying to make was that, in the present climate, new creative idea's should be congratulated not ridiculed. The sad point was that in the past you'd have expected fresh idea's like this to actually come from companies like Virgin...

Is there anyone who thinks that AA/BA/IB will not get the anti-trust immunity ?
