So BA have beaten VS to the punch then.

BA have announced they will be starting 777 service to CUN twice a week from LGW.

One would imagine that VS/VH had had their eye on this route for a while, seems perfect for the Y-W-Y 330s.

Didn't they have this flight on the schedule years ago? I might be mis-remembering since they've done connections with AA through MIA for a long time, but I seem to recall they did it direct for a while. Can't agree more this is a missed op for VS.

I may be wrong, but BA used to have a charter service, with higher density planes running from LGW in the 90s, I am sure Cancun was one of their routes ...

Good for BA, sad for VS to be behind here - but if any of the current routes were unsuccessful I am sure VS would have switched aircraft to others like CUN, which is a sort of good thing.

MM you are correct.

Route was canceled in 2000. Was operated as part of the BA-AML agreement, originally with the DC10-30 then moved onto the 777.

BA-AML was an agreement between JMC Airlines/Flying Colours and BA. JMC/Flying Colours cabin crew worked the flight alongside BA pilots on BA livered aircraft with the cabin being high density.

I was about to book an UC G fare with VS to CUN for next May via Miami as there's not yet been any news on when VS are going to start this route other than some time in 2011. Would be daft to stick with VS if I can fly direct with BA. Does anyone else have any further news on when VS are likely to start running this route?
