T5 first trip next month. Not been there before. Flight 16:00 but want to get there early. Anyone know what the lounge is like with regards food and best lounge for me to shove the in-laws down. Expecting to get there about midday.

As a T5 virgin what sort of food is avail to lowly blue in the Galleries and has anyone got any pics or links to pics to see what to brief the in-laws for (I'm desperate to get the boyfriends mother in front of that horse with a lampshade thing)

Thanks

Adrian

I've been along to Galleries once so far, back there on Friday so could try and take soem photos.

It's a very large lounge and it's defintely up there with some of the Clubhouses in my book. Good selection of hot food and snacks - there was a choice of soups with bread, and then pasta, a curry dish, mushroom stroganoff, and a huge pile of bacon/sausage sandwiches. Wide selection of wines and the normal expected drinks. Some light snacks such as biscuits, crisps, cheese etc.

Free Wifi, and a good number of PC's that you could use to work or surf. Lots of free newspapers and magazines too.

Sarah can probably shed some up to date knowledge as she was there this afternoon, filling up on Thai curry and white wine :)

I presume that you are travelling in club - there are 2 lounges, at either end of the terminal to use. I used the one which is in the complex with the First and Concorde lounges which was very large and seemed fairly spacious, even though we were travelling on a Friday evening. Don't forget to ask for champagne when you are in there - it is freely available but you have to ask for it!

Here's an online guide (I was looking at it the other day, pondering whether 125 per person for a Club Class upgrade to Prague is worth it...)

They do look a bit secksy... T5

Yup, I was in there yesterday. There are two Galleries Club lounges, 'North' and 'South', and both are pretty much identical. There is a range of help yourself food, the Thai curry and Mushroom stroganoff is still there, some plain pasta with sauces, salads, breads, cheese, fruits, cereals, soup, etc. Not as wide a selection as the Clubhouse but enough to ward off hunger. There is help yourself booze as well, and a good selection of self-pour wine.

There are lots of seating zones, free WiFi and computer terminals for use, televisions dotted about thta were showing Cricket yesterday. Lots of free papers too. Its a nice lounge, no Clubhouse but still very enjoyable for a few hours.

Thanks,
Sarah

There are now three Galleries Club lounges - a superb one has recently opened in T5B so if you are flying from there my advice would be to catch the shuttle early and chill out there.

Does anyone know at what stage it's possible to ascertain which part of T5 will be used for a particular flight, and therefore which of the lounges will be most appropriate?

I've just booked us of a flight to IST just after Christmas, and since this will be our first experience of T5/Club Europe/Galleries Lounges I'm trying to gain as much info as possible.

Particularly because Mme F doesn't know we're travelling Club, so I hope to be sufficiently genned up that I can appear totally nonchalent....... [;)]

Not much if you go to the Galleries at IAD in the B concourse.

You will not know until the departure gate is assigned, sometimes check-in will tell you sometimes you have to wait until it comes up on the board. The Short hauls usually depart from the main terminal.Have fun.

Not always though, my flight to Vienna left from T5B - I felt quite special. [:D]

I usually end up in the wrong lounge and have the long walk to the other side of the terminal. Most of my Euro flights have left from area A though.

They will tell you at checkin/bag drop off even if the gate isn't shown. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as I tend to fly to the same destinations and have flown from T5, T5B and will doubt use T5c (when open) to them.

That answers the question, even if the result seems to be an example of BA at their most obtuse [?]
