There were a few programs on BBC4 recently about Concorde and its history. There was a chat with one of the original design team who had the best quote ever:

'There is what used to be called Steerage or Economy, Business Class, First Class ... and then there is Class.'

Or R, as I used to call it. Not quite as classy... ;-)

Love that quote.

Was lucky enough to fly once and it beat any form of travel i'd done before or since by miles. Upsets me a little each time I hear about it!

They used to have a special airline staff rate for a confirmed one way seat on Concorde - never used it! I kick myself about that now!

Mrs Buns & I were once offered a BA 'Friends & Family' fare for one way Concorde to JFK and back subsonic for (IIRC) about 600. We did not take up the offer and have regretted it ever since[n][n]

That's the one - it was also offered to other airline staff too!

Indeed, thats my biggest regret too.
Had they decided to retire the bird a few years later I could have justifiably afforded the flight, as it was we missed out.

She still looks more beautiful and modern than anything in the sky today. Not bad something in it's 40's.

Me too. But I did fork out for the next two, and the last one on my 39th birthday was on BA Miles just before BA announced complete cessation. The cost of the taxes was about 140 then, and I'd quaffed that much worth of Tatty Comtes de Champagne in the CCR before boarding. I never noticed anyone famous on board, only people who thought they were.

I did manage a QE2 / Concorde combo - the QE2 part was definitely inferior!

I was fortunately able to fly on her a 'fair few' times for family holidays and the like and from being a small kid to being in my thirties. My one regret is that she want around for my 40th bash.
