Hi All,

Since it seems we have at least 2 or 3 backers, could we investigate this option for a video forum?

Agreeing with the storage/bandwidth points, and accepting them as problems, could there be an area on the site to categorise videos, and post a link to the place that the member has it stored?

It COULD be just a regular forum, but a categorisation (kind of like the TR section) would be helpful for searching...?

Paul

Ultimately, that is a question for Pete, when he returns from Vegas.
My own thoughts are that we are possibly encroaching into territory covered by other websites, like flightlevel350.com.

We are finding it hard enough to cover costs as it is. Membership kits are the main source of income so, as you can imagine.. we aren't exactly rolling in money. I would guess that the huge increase in storage capacity would mean big a big increase in bandwidth cost.

Still, as you say in the other thread, Pix may have broken the bank in vegas by the time he gets back ;)[8D]

Ah, sorry Nick - might not have been clear from above - that's exactly what I'm trying to suggest we don't do.

I'm suggesting an area to categorise LINKS - that people have to their own storage areas on the web. That way, people are responsible for their own webspace, but we have an easier way to search for/through them, without having to actually store them on the site.

That way, no bandwidth, no storage, but the benefit of having categorised videos like the photo section / Trip Reports.

(broken links would obviously need to be managed, but this is easily overcome).

My apologies Paul, I misunderstood.

There seems to be two options, either providing single links to 'approved' video site(s) where the 'housekeeping' is done on the homepage of the linked site(s) or having a series of links in a category on V-Flyer.

Again, this is Pete's territory, I am not sure how copyright is affected, I assume we would only have the right to link to videos uploaded by members who give us their consent to link directly to them? It isn't my area of law I am afraid[:I]

No probs Nick - I should have made the original a little more explicit.

This was the kind of way I saw it working - there are a few members that seem interested in uploading flight videos of their own.

Not sure where to post this so I'll put it here. Keep an eye out for my video which should be on http://www.flightlevel350.com in 5 days time. file no. (1121991398.wmv). Camera was a bit shakey but good sound (good quality considering it is only from a compact digital camera).
