Hi

MEL-AYQ QF1104 0850 26 Jan 2007

Australia Day weekend here so decide to make use of the long weekend and pop up to Ayers Rock/Uluru. Last minute decision but still managed to get Red E Deal fares with Qantas (the only airline to fly to Ayers Rock).

Used the online check in the day before and printed out our boarding cards. Arrived at the airport fairly early as we wanted to check bags in - and having seen the DJ bag drop queues - and this being a holiday w/e didn't want to take any chances. Typically only one person in queue so were bagless and off through security in minutes.

Not members of the Qantas Club so just milled around and had a drink. At 0830 flight was called and we boarded allocated 11E & F on B738. Flight was only 60% ish full so we had three seats to spread out over. Flying time of 2h40m was announced. Usual video safety brief and we were airborne. As soon as the seatbelt sign was off the kid and mother in row in front fully reclined their seats which they kept reclined until we started our descent.[n] A snack was served - ham and brie in ciabatta - was OK bread was very dry. Screened the movie The Queen, which is still playing at cinemas here, not bad - specially as weren't expecting a film.

No one in J so we were able to use the front toilet - had a chat with the crew - also watching the movie - apparently it is an easy flight to do as it is a 'holiday' flight so everyone is relaxed.

We were on the wrong side to see the rock on approach but saw the Olgas. Landed 10 mins ahead of schedule. The airport whilst modern is basic - as you would expect. The runway is also the taxiway and has turning points at the ends. No jetways just stairs and walk across the tarmac. Within minutes the bags were through and we were off on the free shuttle to the resort.

Overall a very good and relaxing flight made by the IFE.
