I will miss out the Easy jet parts as they are well documented.
I had some business to take care of in Winterthur( NE CH),and since it was May day/bank holiday Monday, Mrs H decided to come along and we spent a day and a half in Geneva before travelling North to Winterthur. This was and excellent decision. The train from the airport to the main station was approx 3 SF each, one way. All trains leaving the airport stop at Geneva Central so it is easy to get a train. A tip for this is, sit in first class cabin. The trip is only 5 minutes and nobody comes to check and it is empty as everyone walks down to the 2nd class seats. We stayed at the Hotel Auitel which is approx 300m from the station and 15 - 20 minutes walk from the lake. We took a boat ride of 1 hour for 12 SF each that was well worth the cost and very informative. The Old town is very nice. Restaurants and bars were excellent. Fountain on the lake is very impressive and the lake was crystal clear. Weather during our trip was warm and sunny. Unlike the North, all people were French speaking and all areas felt safe at night, even the red light district (I believe). Prices were similar to GB although Mrs H was upset with the 100ml glasses of wine for the same price as our 175ml. I tried the grilled trout and also teh perch fillets from lake Geneva and both were very good. Restaurant choice was endless, with every nationality you can think of.
Flew out of Basel (approx 3 hour drive North of Geneva) but roadworks and signs in the city are still terrible. These seem to have been going on for years now. Basel airport (Euro-airport) is quite nice though with some good facilities.
