Anyway back to the lounge. It is an airport VIP lounge, which is very open plan with a smoking area, seated table cafe type area, plenty of leather sofas, desks (some with free computer access) and an area with loungers to catch up on sleep on. There are two shower rooms - not sure if they supply towels though. The usual selection of free drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and nibbles (crisps, nuts and olives). No free WiFi unfortunately. Overall, much better than the old Iberia lounge in T2.
Flights are called and we headed off to the gate....quite a walk, and most people had already boarded. The second immigration screeners were very officious asking lots of questions. Down the escalator to the plane, to seat 2C. The actual seat seemed very narrow indeed - I could hardly fit into it. I asked if it was configured ok, to which I was told it was - it was obvious from the seats on the D/E/F side that the seat width was probably about 2-3 inches less. It was uncomfortable and meant not the nicest of flight back to the UK. They did try to sort if out, but couldn't change anything.
After take-off, drinks were served (no hot towels or pretzels again). The cabin crew manager addressed everyone by name in Club throughout the flight.....even remembering names (there were only 2.5 rows of club!). Dinner was then served - salmon with veggies in cream sauce (hot) or mozarella and tomato salad (cold), bread rolls (very ncie for a change), chocolate orange dessert and cheese. Not too bad.
Landing back at LGW, we were off relatively quickly and then it was into Immigration. The place was desserted, so for a change decided to use the actual desks and was seen straight away (better than the move forward, backwards, to the left etc with IRIS). Then it was back to the South Terminal to find all the trains delayed due to signalling problems.
Overall the flight was marred by the seat - I would from now on always choose with the D/E/F side as they seem bigger and you have more space with the empty seat in the middle.
