NZ 005 SFO - Auk 18/04/10

As ANZ use the same seats in their Business Premier cabin as Virgin do in UC this was a good opportunity to compare the service provided.

As a big fan of Virgin Atlantic I am sorry to have to report that the ANZ service provided was far better than my recent experiances with Virgin UC.

As the seat is the same nothing to compare with both having the same problems.

Main plus points for ANZ over VS IMHO are as follows.

1.In flight entertainment switched on before take off & swithed off soon after landing. As everyone will know it can often be between 30-60 minutes after take off that Virgin fire up V Port.

2. Meals were of a much higher standard than Virgin, even offered dessert wine. Breakfast offering far better.

3. On several occasions crew addresses me by name.

4. Amenity kit, although not spectacular at least it looks better than the VS offering.

5. Crew much more attentive.

Following this flight I took NZ123 Auk - Mel and experinaced the same level of service.

Later this month I am taking ANZ {Business Premier} from Hong Kong - Heathrow. As much as I would have liked to travel Virgin on this route the superior service offered by ANZ and lower price on offer won the day.

Only down side is that I wont be able to use Virgin HK clubhouse & tier points awarded for ANZ flight are only 2 rather than 5 for VS.

Best regards

Agreed, pretty much matches my flights with NZ, they are top notch although I do miss the bar and the lighting on their 747s can be a bit harsh. Loved the booklet describing the very good wines they carry too.

Not wholly sure about PE though, they pack 'em in a bit tighter width wise than VS, but the new seat does look very good.

Well spotted. My flight was NZ5 LAX - AUK. I had flown into SFO a few days earlier on VS which was what had confused me.

Took a couple of internal flights, SFO - Kansas City which was very good value and only a $50 supplement for "stretch seating" on Mid West.
Then flew from KC - LAX on South West which was expensive and cramped.

Flying from Melbourne - Singapore on Singapore Airlines A380 on Friday and will log TR.

Best regards
